| St Emilion, Bordeaux I have known Christian Dauriac for nearly twenty years, and this is the finest Destieux he has yet produced. His new cellars have allowed him to tame some of the rustic tannin this wine often possesses. The 2000 offers a dense opaque purple color as well as a sweet nose of blackberry fruit intermixed with cherry liqueur and cassis. Smoke, earth, and oak are also apparent. In the mouth, the wine is full-bodied and rich, with moderately high manageable tannin, and the structure is not intimidating. This offering requires 3-4 years of cellaring; it should age well for 16-17 years. A sleeper of the vintage, this wine is generally reasonably priced ... readers take note. Rated 89-90 Robert Parker A firm, slightly lean 2000, with berry and tobacco character, medium body and a fresh finish. Score range: 85-88 Wine Spectator |
