Mature medium-ruby brick color. Not particularly intense, but certainly ripe and reasonably full-bodied, this vintage shows good acidity and the classic gingery-earthy mineral flavors typical of Rutherford. There is not much bouquet, however. The finish is somewhat tarry, with good sweetness in the mid-palate marred by some awkward, dry tannins and a whiff of VA. More complete than the 1972, but a long way off the 1970.
